Ascendent Systems Launches Enterprise Voice Application Server to Enable Intelligent Mobile Voice Services and Applications for Enterprise & Government

EVS1200 Enhances Corporate Voice Mobility with Improved Policy Framework, Conferencing Applications and Business Continuity Solutions

CHICAGO — June 22, 2004 — Ascendent Systems, a leading developer of mobility and business continuity solutions for voice communications, today introduced extended support for voice applications within its Enterprise Voice Application Server, EVS1200, at SUPERCOMM 2004. An advanced voice communication management system, Ascendent’s EVS1200 unifies voice networks and delivers a consistent set of voice services and applications to any communications device while preserving existing investments in legacy infrastructure.

Ascendent’s EVS1200 voice application server routes calls – regardless of technology – anywhere the user prefers to be contacted. Traditional Private Branch Exchange (PBX)-like services are extended to remote devices so users can enjoy one-number reach-ability with a consistent set of voice services, including unified voicemail, replicating an in-office environment. These capabilities are available across traditional PBX desk sets, as well as VoIP, WiFi, cellular, home office, and MSN Messenger ä devices.

“Our alliance with Ascendent gives our clients unlimited accessibility and simplified one-phone-number communication. With this technology, users can be virtually anywhere and able to remain in seamless, constant contact with colleagues,” said Robert Blumenthal, TELUS Mobility’s Vice President, Products and Services. “Companies can now explore new mobility options while leveraging their existing telecommunications infrastructure investments by bringing PBX or Centrex portability to office telephone systems. The Ascendent solution increases productivity and continuity in voice communications.”

“Two years ago, our main objectives in updating our network infrastructure were focused on meeting the needs of students temporarily residing in an off-campus location,” said BJ Cook Telecommunications Manager, Marquette University. “Today, this has evolved into a complete mobile extension service that reaches across students, faculty, campus police and all University employees. Partnering with Ascendent Systems and Nextel allowed us to exceed our objectives and continue a long standing tradition in integrating technology with educational excellence.”

Smart Conferencing and Intelligent Voice Services
Ascendent’s new converged conference-calling applications, with three service options, are designed to eliminate the need for third-party Conference Initiators or Administrators to setup, schedule, or moderate conference calls. Controlled directly by the Ascendent EVS, conferencing services can be conducted independently while leveraging the underlying mobility and voice services to instantly assemble teams, make decisions, and benefit business operations. By eliminating third-party conferencing services, customers can realize significant savings using any of the following options:

  • Join Me Conferencing
    Individually conference-in another party
  • Meet Me Conferencing
Schedules a conference with automatic email notification
  • Get Me Conferencing
Schedules and automatically calls all participants of a Personal Conference Group at a specified time

Business Continuity and Communication-Policy Framework
An improved communication policy framework addresses greater security, priority and call-routing. It provides telecom managers with the tools to more effectively control the telecommunications resources, guard against fraud or abuse, and enables corporations to deploy mobility solutions enterprise-wide while keeping ongoing telecom costs in check. These policies can be implemented with user-based granularity, giving systems administrators maximum flexibility and control to tailor configurations to match their organization’s specific needs.

Ascendent Systems also delivers business continuity for the voice network and services. Remote servers can be deployed to back-up to the primary corporate system in the event that the primary site becomes unavailable, ensuring a connection for all employees regardless of location or communication device.

“We are proud to empower our customers with the tools to deploy unified voice services and applications across the greater enterprise – regardless of technology.” said Walt Blomquist, Ascendent Systems’ Vice President of Marketing. “With these new extensions to the EVS1200, we continue to deliver on our commitment to enable greater productivity, business continuity, and ROI to our customers.”
